Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended family these qualities were naturally. Maureen was welcomed into the safe haven of her parents on the 17th of August 1920, at Ranelagh (a suburb in Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share in "The Shamrock Rovers" a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and was a gruelling athlete in games as a child. The passion for sports was matched by an unnatural talent for performing. In the end, she won the majority of the Feis Awards for dramatic and acting within her own country. When she was in her 14th year she enrolled in the Abbey Theater to follow her aspirations and pursue studies in classical theatre and operatic vocals.
